Jan 22, 2013

If you listen carefully on a still night,
you can hear the tinkling sound of
the coralline sand settling back down from
the uplift of a wavelet.

It is the subtle sound
of bubbles bursting from joy,
of tinsel falling from the Christmas tree,
of stars coming into being,
and of potential futures narrowed
to the reality of now.

If you listen carefully on a still night,
you can hear the universe.

  1. Thank you, Eliz. Also for your other comments. This is one of the stones that I want to work on some more to get it into more of a formal poem with meter and structure. I wrote it as I was hearing the sand falling in the waves and while I was thinking of my dear friend whose brother is dying. That made me think of how the passing of time brings us joy , but ultimately forces us to make choices. We can only do one thing at a time.
